A Little Bit About Taylor

Taylor Burkum is the oldest son of an artist and a calligrapher, so it’s no surprise that he grew up loving to draw. He began when he was 8 years old, enjoying the freedom of drawing whatever he could imagine, though he mostly drew people. Now he draws people’s pets.

He drew his first dog portrait in 2009 as a gift for his in-laws. People saw it, and loved it so much that they commissioned him to draw their pets. Eventually he realized he had a good thing going, so he stuck with it.

Taylor aspires to create the best portraits he can while pursuing what he loves, and enjoys connecting with people around the world through his art.

When he’s not creating, he likes listening to music and collecting old trinkets and oddities, such as bones and arrowheads. He lives with his wife, three children, and two dogs in Southwest Iowa, where he was born and raised.
